Western Region Azbee Award Finalists Announced

Awards will be presented July 23 in Kansas City; RSVP by July 16.

The list of finalist publications in the Western Region competition of the Azbee Awards of Excellence has been released; exactly which publications won which awards will be announced at the regions awards banquet, to be held July 23 in Kansas City, just before the ASBPE National Editorial Conference begins. If you wish to attend the banquet, you must RSVP by July 16.

New Chapter Officers Take the Helm

A new board is planning for the future of the chapter.

ASBPE Denver now has new board members. As Frank Slejko has stepped down, freelance writer/editor Mike Lafferty has agreed to serve as acting president. In addition, John Hughes of Opflow, which is published by the American Water Works Association, and Ethan Elliott, managing editor of National Business Media’s Digital Graphics have signed on as board members. Past officers Emily Thompson and Tina Eichner remain on the chapter board.

Make Your Web Site the Best It Can Be

At the December meeting, which was held at the Denver Press Club, Monica Baruth and Gay Porter DiNileon of American Water Works Association (AWWA) offered several insights into successful web publishing. Baruth recounted her organization’s extensive efforts in realm of web publishing and shared experiential pitfalls as well as successes.
 
Topics discussed included the difficulty and importance of keeping up-to-date information (such as email addresses) on content users, potential money-making areas of a website, how to offer web-based advertising and how results can be tracked, and more. The “lessons learned” were invaluable and could benefit each member’s web publishing approach.
